Christine Leadman has lived in Kitchissippi Ward for over 20 years. Her family roots are deep in Kitchissippi as her husband and two daughters were born in the Grace Hospital, the girls went to public schools in the area, and all still live and work in the neighbourhood.

Since moving to Kitchissippi, Christine has been involved with many initiatives to improve the quality of life in our community by helping families, seniors, youth, charities, and businesses. As Executive Director of the Westboro Business Improvement Area for the past 14 years, she has helped shape Westboro Village into one of the most vibrant and peaceful areas in which to live in Ottawa.

Some accomplishments over the years include:

  • Christine brought community policing to Kitchissippi Ward by establishing a District Office in Westboro Village. Funds were raised to support the office, and grew to support and establish the Youth After School Program at the All Saints Anglican Church. There is now a fully established community police office in our Ward.
  • Christine incorporated new initiatives in the village to stop graffiti.
  • As a member of the Traffic Calming Guidelines Committee she participated in developing the parameters for appropriate measurements.
  • As a member of the Waste Management Public Advisory Committee she challenged staff to develop a strategy to bring about fairness and transparency in the City of Ottawa waste management plan.
  • Christine has fought tirelessly on behalf of taxpayers to bring accountability to the City of Ottawa.
  • Christine is also a big supporter of many local charities such as the Toy Mountain Campaign, the Elvis Sighting Society Annual Beanfest with proceeds going to many local agencies such as Children’s Village, (YMYW-CA), Dovercourt Recreation Centre, the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Trust, The Ottawa Art Gallery, The Great Canadian Theatre Company, Ottawa West Kiwanis Club and local families in need. Christine Leadman has indeed impacted many individuals and interest groups in only the best ways possible.
  • She helped local artists establish the Westboro Artists Studio Tour, was Honourary Chair on Westboro Beach Community Association’s Black Tie Beach Ball, established the Westboro Day Parade and Giant Garage Sale.
  • A founding co-producer of WESTFEST, the event has grown into one of the most successful festivals in the city of Ottawa. Its focus is to support the local arts community as well as to showcase Canadian talent. The mandate for WESTFEST has been to ensure this event is free, and accessible to everyone.
  • Deepening her understanding of Kitchissippi she has served on the board of “Newswest” community newspaper over a 10-year span in several capacities including Chair, until its merger with the Kitchissippi Times.

Christine is now taking her positive energies to City Hall. She will continue her effective service of the community, demanding transparency and accountability, and she will work hard to renew a spirit of collaboration between Council and Staff.

Her portfolio as Councillor for Kitchissippi Ward includes:

  • Transit Committee
  • Transportation Committee
  • Community and Protective Services Committee

  • Westboro BIA Board of Directors
