Glenn Brooks, born and raised in the rural community, has served his community in a number of capacities over an extended period of time. He entered local politics in 1977 when he was first elected to the Township of Rideau Council. Since then he served as its Mayor for three terms (9 years) and, most recently, as the Corporation's Chief Executive Officer. He was also Rideau's representative on the Council of the former Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton. After 22 years of public service to the Township, Glenn was elected to the Council of the new City of Ottawa in 2000.

While a strong advocate of the rural municipalities remaining separate from the new city (i.e., the Rural Alliance), Glenn is committed to make the new City work for his constituents. He is well known for his "door knocking" throughout the Ward, his capacity to listen to constituent concerns, and his ability to communicate those concerns to achieve results. Glenn is a retired educator (principal/teacher of 33 years) and farmed locally for 10 years.

Glenn is able to keep up the hectic pace demanded of his position by keeping fit through his active participation in a number of sports - judo, ball, hiking, swimming and canoeing. He is a committed family man. He is married to Gail Wallace and the proud father of Robb, Beth and James. On occasion, when time permits, he enjoys a good novel.

He purposely chose to run for election to the new City Council to ensure his constituents' interests remain in the forefront of issues to be addressed by Ottawa Council. His priorities for his first term on Council include: extending local calls throughout the area of the new City; developing a rational plan for managing the City's biosolids and an environmentally sound approach to the application of pesticides; ensuring his constituents are provided with an enhanced level of ambulance service; and, getting the Village of Manotick serviced.
