Summer camps

We offer visual and performing arts camps for summer, in specialized studios taught by experienced arts instructors in a structured and fun environment.
 

Studios

The Arts Centre's air-conditioned program-specific space accommodates the needs of over 10 visual arts organizations and exhibition space for NVAC instructors, students and studio members. City staff, artists and arts organizations share office space and resources.

MDes in Design Planning and Interaction Design, Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, PA), BFA in Visual Communication, Université Laval  and University of Edmonton, DEC in Fine Arts, Cegep de Ste-Foy. Design Instructor for NSCAD University, Carnegie Mellon University and the Arts Institute of Pittsburgh.
Highlights:

worked in advertising and marketing then applied skills to the fields of education, way-finding, corporate/government design, health care and finally user interaction/cognitive design.
worked in publications using up to 5 languages and involved in many international design projects.
won many awards in design and photography and obtained recognition for patents while working in high tech
exhibited work in galleries throughout Ottawa, Canada and the U.S.

Katherine McNenly

Experience and Education:

Participated in various art classes at NVAC (Mixed Media), Algonquin (Print making), and other workshops organized by OMMA; Interior Design Diploma, with over 20 years experience working in Facilities Management.
Yvette enjoys Mixed Media for its experimental qualities which allows for freedom of expression. Some of the topics covered in class: creating textures, image transfers, stamping, monoprinting, collage etc.
Highlights:

Member of Ottawa Mixed Media Artists (OMMA) since its inception. Volunteering on the Executive of OMMA.
Participated in group shows organized by OMMA at Gloucester Gallery, Britannia Gallery, Carlen Gallery, The Green Door, The Table, Rasputin and Nepean Visual Arts Centre.
Various artworks voted into Juried Shows.
Received Award of Excellence for “Une douillette pour demoiselle”.

Karl Schutt
Silver Jewellry Beginner
Education and Experience:

Karl Schutt, born in Pembroke and trained in the Fine Arts at the Universities of Manitoba and in Art History at the University of British Columbia, retired in January 1999 from a 29-year career as a secondary school art instructor. Over the years he has studied the jewellery arts here and abroad. In the 80's he completed American and British gemmological training and has been faceting precious gems since the late 1970's. Additionally, Karl works in watercolours, pastels, three-dimensional metals, and stone sculpture. Karl continues to teach adults in visual arts and jewellery arts.
Highlights:

“It is from the Renaissance artist that I find my inspiration. This inspiration has lead me to work in precious metals, in sterling silver and precious gems, cutting cabochon, faceting all kinds of transparent gem material, and in combining a variety of techniques in the creating of small objects to be worn as jewellery or looked at as sculpture.”

Kerry Stothers
Drawing: Introduction

Education and Experience:

Bachelor of Fine Arts, University of Calgary. Primarily a portrait painter Ms. Stothers has exhibited her work throughout Alberta, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Chelsea. In addition to teaching painting and drawing classes at the Nepean Visual Arts Centre, Ms. Stothers operates “Portraits by Kerry”, a small business accepting commissioned portraits, paintings and drawings.
She also paints wall murals for commercial and residential clients, and she does contract artwork for museum display companies and television and movie production companies. Ms. Sothers’ museum work consists primarily of painting and sculptured objects as well as a variety of faux techniques, and can be seen in museums throughout North America, including the Smithsonian Museum in Washington and the New Founder’s Hall in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
Highlights:

Memberships: Ottawa Council of the Arts, Entrepreneurship group for small businesses.
Portrait exhibitions every summer and before Christmas
Works on display with Nepean Visual Arts Centre and with the Nepean Fine Arts League

Kerri Weller
Botanical Illustration
Education and Experience:

AOCA, Ontario College of Art - BSc AMM
University of Toronto
Highlights:

A Medical Illustrator and Graphic Designer by profession, career highlights include ten years as an Exhibits Graphic Designer/Illustrator with the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto. A workshop with celebrity botanical artist, Canada’s Pamela Stagg spurred her interest in botanical art. Today, Kerri’s work is included in the prestigious 2010 International Exhibition of Botanical Art and Illustration at the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, Carnegie Mellon University, Pennsylvania.
