Ambulances and ParamedicsNews and EventsThe Ottawa Paramedic Service delivers sophisticated medical treatment to all residents and visitors of Ottawa for life-threatening medical emergencies including heart attacks, strokes, respiratory and traumatic injuries. In 2007, paramedics responded to 98,505 calls at a wide range of medical emergencies and fires, water rescues, industrial accidents, hazardous material incidents and police operations. A paramedic's work environment is always changing and can be a factory, living room or kitchen, the office, the roadway, the sidewalk, the park, the arena or the inside of a crushed automobile. All 342 of Ottawa's highly trained paramedics form an integral part of the City's emergency preparedness team and are the sole medically certified providers of out-of-hospital medical treatment. I am privileged to lead a dedicated team of highly skilled paramedics, technicians, support staff and special teams that rivals the best pre-hospital medical care anywhere in North America. Every member of our team works diligently to serve the citizens and visitors to the nations' capital.
