Ambulances and Paramedics

The Ottawa Paramedic Service delivers sophisticated medical treatment to all residents and visitors of Ottawa for life-threatening medical emergencies including heart attacks, strokes, respiratory and traumatic injuries.

In 2007, paramedics responded to 98,505 calls at a wide range of medical emergencies and fires, water rescues, industrial accidents, hazardous material incidents and police operations. A paramedic's work environment is always changing and can be a factory, living room or kitchen, the office, the roadway, the sidewalk, the park, the arena or the inside of a crushed automobile. All 342 of Ottawa's highly trained paramedics form an integral part of the City's emergency preparedness team and are the sole medically certified providers of out-of-hospital medical treatment.

I am privileged to lead a dedicated team of highly skilled paramedics, technicians, support staff and special teams that rivals the best pre-hospital medical care anywhere in North America.

Every member of our team works diligently to serve the citizens and visitors to the nations' capital. The people of Ottawa have entrusted us with their most valuable possession - their health and the health of their loved ones. It is a task that all of us at the Ottawa Paramedic Service take extreme pride in effecting.

I hope that you enjoy your visit through our site and learn more about the men and women that keep Ottawa a great place to live and visit.
