Paramedic Service Structure
The Ottawa Paramedic Service has four divisions, which ensure that the day-to-day delivery of sophisticated medical treatment is rendered for those suffering from medical illnesses and traumatic injuries.
- Office of the Chief - Under the leadership of Anthony Di Monte, Chief of the Ottawa Paramedic Service, this office provides administrative support for all divisions of the service and manages the service's Performance Management Group that assures public accountability through performance reporting and customer feedback, clinical review and quality improvement initiatives. These important missions are achieved through performance data collection and reporting, monitoring and audits that ensure regulatory compliance and maintenance of Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care certification standards.
- Operations - Deputy Chief of Operations, Pierre Poirier leads a dedicated team tasked with the delivery of sophisticated medical treatment to the 900,000 citizens of the City of Ottawa and the 7 million annual visitors to the nation's capital. The Operations Division is the largest division within the Ottawa Paramedic Service, and is responsible for deployment of paramedics and front-line service delivery.
- Technical Services – Deputy Chief Kevin Newell heads this division, comprised of four sections; Logistics, Special Operations, Program Development (training) and Community Medicine.
Logistics is responsible for the management of the Paramedic Service's fleet and medical equipment. Special Operations is in charge of special community events and our specialty teams of Tactical Paramedics, Bike Paramedics, Marine Paramedics and CBRN Paramedics. Program Development is tasked with the continuing competence training for all Advanced Care and Primary Care Paramedics as well as the development of specialty training programs. Our Community Medicine program is responsible for the highly successful Paramedic Public Access Defibrillation Program (PPAD) as well as community first aid and safety awareness and education programs.
- Communications - Also under the guidance of Deputy Chief Pierre Poirier, the Ottawa Paramedic Service Central Ambulance Communication Centre (CACC) is responsible for the call-taking, call prioritization and deployment of paramedics units to medical emergencies, not only for the City of Ottawa area but also for surrounding areas that form a great portion of the eastern Ontario region. In 2008, our team of 52 communication officers and seven supervisory personnel processed approximately 300,000 vehicle deployments not only within the City of Ottawa but also for services in the united counties of Stormont and Glengarry and Prescott, Russell.
